Rob "Lights Out" Roddin
by Robert Roddin
(Austin, TX U.S.)
I'm not going to bore you with statistics and what I've done in the past, because frankly, just like a job, most people beef up their resumes. Instead of telling you what kind of player I was, I will tell you what kind of player I am...
First, I'm a 6'6" 225 lb. guard from Austin, Texas. I have a wing span of a 6'10" player...which is usually the first thing people notice. I'm 32 years old and have never played collegiately or professionally. But, I have been playing since high school and have tried out with a couple of semi-pro teams here in the U.S. No, the experience might not be there, but my skills are.
To best describe my game, I'm a shooter who likes to drive to the hoop and loves blocking shots! I actually shoot better with someone in my face, but I'll knock down an open jumper anytime. I can shoot the "lights out", but I love playing defense! There's no better feeling than to send someone's lame shot into the stands. I'm also a hustler. I dive for balls on the floor and save the ones going out of bounds. I love the physical contact of the sport, it gets my adrenaline pumping. This is why I still play!
I'm getting myself ready for another tryout this year for the Austin Toros. I'm also looking for other options, such as playing overseas. I know there is a team somewhere over there that can use a player like me. Plus, it will give me the experience I need to maybe one day get to the NBA. But if that doesn't pan out, I'll still be more than willing to play overseas until my body says I can't anymore.
I have a love and passion for the game that has never gone away. The fire is still burning, I just need a chance to prove myself. I always give 110% when playing, and am very coachable. My family is 100% behind me and willing to support my decision to play if the opportunity comes. I'm willing to put my spot on your team on the line...
...bring your best guy to Austin, Texas and let me play him one on one. If he wins, i'm out...If I win, I'm in!
Hope to hear from you, I'll be playing while I'm waiting!
