"MY LIFE"

by Simone Coburn
(Bourbonnais, IL)

My name is Simone Coburn. I am from North Chicago, IL. I been playing basketball since the age of 9. In the 8th grade is when I decided I wanted to play for the WNBA. It has always been a dream. In high school I was on and off the varsity squad all four years. I won mvp my freshmen and sophomore year in high school. I was all-conference my junior and senior year. My senior year I was frustrated not able to find a college to play ball for. I knew I had d1 and d2 potential. I began getting recruited to play juco. I was told that if I go to a junior college, build my skills I will be more prepared for a four year and so I listened. I played for Rock Valley College in Rockford 2007-2009. Not only did I become a better player at Rock valley College, but I became a better woman. I received numerous awards and as a team we made history both years. As a team we were first time ever conference champs for 2008 and 2nd place regionals. In the year 2009 we were regional champs for the first time in 14 years and won a trip to the njcaa national tourney and placed 7th in the country. My individual awards as follows include: MVP of N4C conference for 2008 and 2009

• MVP for Region IV, Division III for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 seasons
• Region IV Tournament All-Tournament Team selection in 2008 and 2009
• All-Tournament Team selection at the NJCAA National Tournament in 2009
• eight NJCAA Player of the Week in her two seasons
• Scored over 1,000 career points and tallied over 600 career rebounds in two seasons
• Set career highs of 29 points and 25 rebounds for a single game
• Finished one assist shy of a triple-double in a game this season
. The first and only girl at Rock valley College to receive All-American honors 2008 2nd team and 2009 1st team.
I am very humble about my awards. Ater juco I was offered scholarships to d1 and d2 ncaa and naia. I chose the d1 naia. Olivet Nazarene University. If chances are low to pursue my dream of the wnba I look for something else and the next thing that comes to my mind is semi-pro and overseas because if I can't make it where I always dreamed of going, I still want to continue my career playing basketball. It is my life and I love it. God has brought me this far and I believe He is still pushing me and I won't give up. I refuse to.
