Hi there. I just want to say welcome to all our new subscribers who have recently signed up.
It is that time of the year again when Basketball season is just around the corner. Please read ahead and hopefully we have some ideas and products that will make your 2007-08 Basketball season the best ever. Please enjoy.
New Site Look Coming
Some of you may have noticed our new site look which is in progress. We have not finished switching over and we have not decided on a final site design but rest assured it will happen soon.
We welcome your feedback on this. Thanks for your patience.
Fiba Americas 2007 Tournament
If you watched any of the recent tournament held in Las Vegas you would have enjoyed some fine basketball played by the Americans, who dominated the competition, but also by some of the other teams, such as Argentina, Puerto Rico, Canada (a surprise to me), and a few others.
Kobe Bryant, Carmello Anthony, Dwight Howard all played great as did many others on the U.S. but I really liked how Jason Kidd played so selflessly. He is a true Pro and a pleasure to watch. It makes you remember the statement that" It i amazing what a team can accomplish when no one cares who gets the credit". That is what true team basketball is about and it is a pleasure to watch.
It was great to see such high level hoops so close to home and I regret not making the trip down to watch. My friend Doug made the trip and had some greta stories. He had breakfast with Mike D'Antoni one day which would have been amazing and he also had a few good celebrity signings. You can see his blog at www.ebehoops.com.
How to be the Best Shooter in your Country
Now when I make this claim I am not joking. I really mean it. The common thinking in Basketball circles is that you have to take 500 shots a day at least to be a good to great shooter. I used to believe this my self and it does not hut to do this as long as you are not shooting fooling around when you practice. It must be disciplined practice.
If you want to be great o course you have to spend the time in the gym, or outside, shooting the basketball. What I have found to be the absolute best in basketball shooting instruction is the Tom Nordland Swish program. Tom has become a personal friend over the years and I bought his program to try it out a few years ago. I was stunned and amazed at how easily I regained my shooting touch. He has so many simple concepts that help young shooters to understand and develop their shot that you simply must watch the video to appreciate.
With Basketball season coming up this would make a great gift for your son or daughter or aspiring coach. Tom throws out a lot of the "traditional" fallacies about how to be a great shooter and I just think it's great.
Have a read of my testimonial that I sent to Tom back in 2005:
"Hi Tom. I just wanted to write to tell you how impressed I am with your teaching of shooting. I have played basketball for over 30 years up to the University level. I have coached at all levels and have never been exposed to such a simple yet effective method of shooting instruction.
To test it out I took to the courts. My shooting improved dramatically. I was a great shooter in High School but in University I became a "defensive specialist" and lost my shooting confidence as well as my technique. I have struggled for years to get it back, mostly by fiddling around trying to alter something here or there.
Over 2 sessions using "awareness" and a few minor changes you suggest I would almost declare it a miracle. As you say, swish after swish. It was amazing to get that "feeling" back. I can't wait to play pick up to see how I do in a game situation. This will forever alter how I teach shooting and I haven't even seen your video yet (which I did purchase).
The other great thing was that I taught the technique to 2 young kids who were shooting at the same courts as me. Their improvement was both sudden and also dramatic in a very short time. I found it hard to be "neutral" though but I did my best. As you can tell I am amazed. What a paradigm shift in teaching shooting!
If I could set it up would you be interested in coming to Vancouver (Canada) to do a shooting clinic. I'm sure we could get a huge turnout. Please let me know your schedule and if you would be interested. I would love to learn your methods in person and learn a new basketball workout plan.
Thanks Tom for your time.
Take care,
Todd."
Train your Brain for Basketball
At first I was skeptical about this product called Intelligym. It looked to me like a technology that was not needed and was all smoke and mirrors. After a closer inspection and after speaking with a well respected Professional Coach who gave it the thumbs up I decided to be a little more open minded. What I found was a tool that actually does work as advertised and it is useful for both players and coaches.
Here is what I am referring to; from their Website:
"What is the Basketball IntelliGym™?
The Basketball IntelliGym™ is a computer program. It looks and plays like a video game, but it is actually a sophisticated training system.
The Basketball IntelliGym™ was tested on players of all levels and age groups. The results: "Playing" with The Basketball IntelliGym™ for just 30 minutes once or twice a week, for only a few weeks, will provide a substantial improvement in skills like real-time decision making, anticipation, concentration, attention-span, team-play, fast response time and court sense".
I think you will find that kids will love to play this "game" and you will be amazed at how good it works.
