Hoop Hype is Contagious-Don't Forget Your Shot

Issue #002-September 2005

Hello everyone and welcome to the second issue of "As The Planet Hoops" E-zine, brought to you by Planet Hoops and www.Hoop-Hype.net.
This is the second of many monthly E-Zine posts so stay tuned and please tell us what you think.

What we are going to do here is bring you the highest quality, most recent information about basketball from around the world. We know that basketball is a tremendous game and that it is played in almost every country of the world and it is growing all the time. I think this is so because basketball is so much fun to play yet challenging, almost like golf.

We will bring you coaching tips, playing tips, tips on how to get a basketball scholarship, information about basketball recruiting videos, basketball video games and much, much more. Please let us know what you want us to write about because this is your e-zine.

Hoop Hype On The Great Wall of China

I want to start with some talk about the popularity of the game gobally, specifically in China. We will be soon adding a Hoops In China page to our website. Today Paul Bale has written some an piece which we include here for you:

Hoops and hoopin', basketball is the fastest growing team sport in the world today. When NBA giant 7ft 6 inches Chinese sensation Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets got drafted to the NBA who knew what a profound effect a single hoopster, a rather large one at that, would have on global basketball? Well, the commissioner of the NBA David Stern knew...that Yao Ming presence 82 games per year would bring exceptional revenue to the NBA via television rights for China! Hello! 300-400 million chinese watch Yao Ming every move every game! Can you imagine that? $$$$ huge cheddar! Cha-ching! cash money baby!

And over in Europe hoops is exploding! A new younger generation is growing up wanting a fast paced, exciting brand of sport...Basketball! In Italy hoops is always second to Soccer, and even Volleyball in certain areas! Slowly but surely, hoops the Italian way is growing at a amazing pace...people are getting a little frustrated a watching a 0-0 Soccer draw...hoops is run & gun...up and down...offence and defense and the italians are very adapt playing this great game.

Paul makes some very good points. I think China is poised to become a super power of basketball. I saw them playat the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and they were huge. The Chines are not traditionally known for their height but ion a country of a few billion there is bound to be some very tall fellas.

If you want to make a few dollars in the basketball business try to hook up with some Chinese business which might be able to supply you with inexpensive products to ship over to North America. Also rememebr that the Beijing is hosting the summer Olympics soon so that too will provide huge exposure of the game of basketball to billions of Chinese.

Go to www.nba.com and click on the Global Game and take a look at the China site. I can't read it but it is there and there for a good reason. China will boom if it has not already.

The Art of Teaching Shooting

The next area I have to write about is the fantastic new Shooting DVD/Video I found recently while surfing the net. I came across this information and read everything I could, all for free of course, it's the internet! So I studied the material and then went out to practise and I could not believe the improvement in such a short time. This is a copy of the Testimonial I sent Tom Nordland of "Swish":

Hi Tom. I just wanted to write to tell you how impressed I am with your teaching of shooting. I have played basketball for over 30 years up to the University level. I have coached at all levels and have never been exposed to such a simple yet effective method of shooting instruction.

To test it out I took to the courts. My shooting improved dramatically. I was a very good shooter in High School but in University I became a "defensive specialist" and lost my shooting confidence as well as my technique. I have struggled for years to get it back, mostly by fiddling around trying to alter something here or there.

Over 2 sessions using awareness and a few minor changes you suggest I would almost declare it a miracle. As you say, swish after swish. It was amazing to get that "feeling" back. I can't wait to play pick up to see how I do in a game situation. this will forever alter how I teach shooting and I haven't even seen your video yet (which I will purchase).

The other great thing was that I taught the technique to 2 young kids who were shooting at the same courts as me. Their improvement was both sudden and also dramatic in a very short time. I found it hard to be "neutral" though but I did my best. As you can tell I am amazed. What a paradigm shift in teaching shooting!

If I could set it up would you be interested in coming to Vancouver (Canada) to do a shooting clinic. I'm sure we could get a huge turnout. Please let me know your schedule and if you would be interested. I would love to learn your methods in person.

Thanks Tom for your time.

Take care,

Todd.
