6-6 SG/SF "Pure shooter" with NCAA, International experience

by Matt Bowden
(Dallas, Texas, USA)

Matt Bowden

6-6 200 lbs Small Forward/Shooting Guard
Born: October 22, 1987 – Dallas, Texas USA
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Outlook:
A lifelong “Long range pure-shooter”, Matt excels in the role of dramatically improving any offense by forcing defenses to spread out and makes double-teaming from his side of the floor virtually impossible. Matt’s accuracy makes all his teammates better, by simply spotting up on one side of the floor, a post or slasher will have more space to operate without fear of help defense.
Matt possesses the excellent combination of outstanding accuracy, limitless range, and a quick release. Matt’s accuracy is equally as effective: catch and shooting, coming off screens, or using his advanced footwork skills to create his own shot. He has worked for six years with NBA developmental coach Morlon Wiley (Orlando Magic), who believes Matt can excel in his role at the international level. Morlon Wiley can be contacted about his recommendation and professional opinion of Matt’s game and ability to contribute at the pro level Matt has an exceptionally high “Basketball IQ”, passing skills, & vision. Consequently, he rarely ever turns the ball over which allows for a great assist/Turnover ratio and maximizes every possession. Great size and ball handling skills allow Matt to play & defend multiple positions, which further adds to his versatility. Defensively, Matt can defend his opposing small forward, in addition to smaller guards & posts with equal effectiveness. He also thrives defensively at the top of zones, using his athleticism, long arms, & size to disrupt opposing offenses.
Considered by coaches/scouts as much more than a “zone buster”, Matt’s limitless range, size, vision, and high basketball IQ makes Matt an important and valuable player that makes all his teammates better.

As shown with the stats below, Matt’s game has been consistent throughout his career. Matt plays the game with patience, never forcing anything and allowing the game to come to him. This is shown with his low turnover/high assist margin and high FG% throughout his entire career. As the level of play/size of the players increase, Matt’s assists increase as well. Throughout his career, Matt has consistently led his team, in most cases the league, in 3FG%, 3FG Made, FT%, and overall FG% among “non-posts”. Regardless to level of play, Matt consistently shoots the ball around 50% from the field and OVER 45% from the international 3point line. Against professional competition, Matt regularly contributes with assists, rebounds and excellent defense giving him more value than just a 3-point shooter. Matt’s size and strength allows him to defend both wings and posts.

The DFW area summer league is “invitation ONLY” and consists of NCAA players/prospects, Professional basketball players from levels as high as premier leagues from Greece (A1), Switzerland, and Italy. In addition to pro players from these premier leagues, there are many lower level professional players and free agents with international experience. Matt has already been invited to return for league play in summer of 2011 after averaging nearly 15 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4 assists a game and shooting over 50% from 3.

Matt regularly plays “open gym” play with NCAA division one players in the DFW area from TCU, SMU, UT-Arlington, and North Texas in the NCAA off-season. Matt trains regularly with Morlon Wiley (NBA development coach for Orlando Magic) and follows his training regimen year-round. Matt’s Training is 7 days a week and consists of a minimum of 1,000 shots per day in addition to participating twice a week with a “strength and speed coach”.
